  1. I. Installing the Battleground Gettysburg Demo.
  2.  
  3.     1. From Windows, select the File menu, and the Run menu item.
  4.     2. Enter:
  5.     d:\bgg\setup
  6.        Note: If your CD-ROM is different from d:, then enter the
  7.        appropriate letter.
  8.     3. Note: you must have Video for Windows Version 1.1 installed on
  9.        your computer in order to run the Battleground Gettysburg videos.

  11. II. Getting Started.
  12.  
  13.     To see a fully automated demo, do the following.  First double-click
  14.     on the Battleground Gettysburg icon.  When prompted, select
  15.     Automatic A/I for both Union and Confederate sides.  This will play
  16.     the demo Computer vs. Computer.  When the A/I Dialog appears, you may
  17.     wish to click on Step to advance the A/I manually, or click on Run to
  18.     have the A/I run without stopping.  To halt A/I processing, press the 
  19.     Escape key (or click on the Cancel button) when the A/I dialog appears.
  20.     To exit the game, halt A/I processing and then select the Exit menu 
  21.     item from the File menu.

  23.     To try a battle against the computer, do the following.  First double-
  24.     click on the Battleground Gettysburg icon.  When prompted, select
  25.     Automatic A/I for one side and Manual mode for the side you wish to
  26.     play.  Here are some tips on how to play:
  27.         1. To advance to the next phase, select the Next Phase menu item
  28.        from the Phase menu or click on the clock icon in the upper
  29.            left hand corner of the tool box that appears on the left hand
  30.        side of the screen.
  31.     2. In the Movement Phase, you can move your units.  Select a unit
  32.        by first clicking on its map hex with the left mouse button.
  33.        Then either double-click to select the entire stack of units in 
  34.        that hex, or click on one or more units at the bottom of the 
  35.        screen to just select certain ones. You then move the unit (or 
  36.        stack) by clicking with the right mouse button on a hex adjacent 
  37.        to that unit on the map.
  38.     3. In the Fire Phases, you can fire on enemy units. Select the unit
  39.        you wish to fire in the same way you selected it for moving, by 
  40.        clicking on its hex and then clicking on its picture at the 
  41.        bottom of the screen.  Select its target by clicking with the 
  42.            right mouse button on a hex containing one or more enemy units.  
  43.        If prompted for a specific target by the Target Dialog, you can 
  44.        select the default simply by clicking on the Ok button.
  45.     4. In the Melee Phase, you can melee against units in hexes adjacent 
  46.        to your units. Select the target hex by clicking on the hex with 
  47.        the right mouse button.  Then select your attacking units by 
  48.        first selecting them and then adding them to the melee using the 
  49.        Add to Melee menu item in the Melee Menu.  When you are done 
  50.        adding units to the melee, you can resolve the melee by selecting 
  51.        the Resolve Melee menu item in the Melee Menu.

  53. III. When in Doubt.

  55.    If you are unsure what to do next in any given situation, you can always
  56.    get the computer to finish the current phase for you by clicking on the
  57.    A/I button that is located in the lower right hand corner of the tool
  58.    box that appears on the left hand side of the screen.
